TURKEY VULTURES started moving in earnest this week with 500 counted on the 3rd
and 600 on the 6th. A GREEN-WINGED TEAL was seen in the harbour on the 4th and
a REDHEAD was seen among the MALLARDS there on that same

Large number and variety of shorebirds late this afternoon 1 km north of County
Rd 42 on the east side of Comber side road.
The birds were between Agris and the canning place in the only wet field.

Highway #60 was great for Common Loon's today by Barry's Bay, Ontario. I
was out doing photography of the fall colours when I noticed my first loon.
That was on Highway #62 just south of Barry's Bay on Kamaniskeg Lake. The
other 2 loons were spotted on Highway 60 on Carson Lake
Local waterfowl populations are starting to change. Numbers in Elevator Bay
have increased; besides the widely reported Greater and Lesser Scaup and
Ring-necked Ducks there were 3 Ruddy Ducks and 2 Am. Coots there on Wednesday.
There were 5 Snow Geese on Wolfe Island on Saturday, then two more
Just had a very large Great Horned Owl perched on my neighbors roof, silent
flight right over head to the top of a 50 foot Pine in the RougeĀ green way.
Watched her for 15 minutes before a sudden dive, presume it found a meal.
