Birding the Carden Alvar was excellent today. We found Loggerhead Shrikes at five locations including two colour banded individuals. One of the banded shrikes is presumably the same bird photographed in Hamilton a week ago. See links. We will be making a full report to Wildlife Preservation Canada.

Today at around 1 pm, we saw 3 Tree Swallows circling above the manmade pond at the north end of the park, viewable from the platform just off the main trail. One adult flew repeatedly to the bird box mounted at the north end of the pond. They were not seen on our return about a half- hour later

My apologies,   In better light and with many eyes we were able to determine that the Eared Grebe reported earilier was in fact a Horned Grebe with a distintct tuft on the top of it's head. The jaeger made a fly past and pictures were taken, we will be checking to determine if it was a Pomarine
