While BBQing tonight at 6 PM Susan and I observed 17 Nighthawks overhead flying
east. Carleton Place is 50 km west of Ottawa on hwy 7. The nighthawks typical
fly along the river in the center of town.

ONTBIRDS is
This morning I went back to The Islands and birded Ward’s and Algonquin Islands
again with Peter McParland and Ian Cannell and though some species were down
from Monday we did notice a marked increase in other species.
We only found 6 warbler species but that did include a Cape May Warbler and
On Tuesday, August 14, we saw one juvenile Red-necked Phalarope at a small
marsh on Cement Road in Port Colborne, near Lakeshore Road. Take 406 south to
East Main St. in Welland. Turn left and go through the tunnel under the canal.
Turn right at next set of lights which is hwy. 140. Follow 140
Lots of early morning activity in Scugog the last few days ...
Good numbers of Bobolinks, Baltimore Orioles, Red-eyed Vireos, flickers and
swallows moving through daily. Smaller numbers of Purple Finches, Eastern
Phoebes and blackbirds. Up to four Ruby-throated Hummers fighting over the
feeder
