Yesterday, Tuesday Nov. 27th Ian Cannell and I went up to Algonquin on a
beautiful late fall day. Weather was great, wind quite calm, sunny and only
about 2 to 3 inches on the ground with most roads clear and following are some
of the birds we found.

This morning I found an adult GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE at the South end
of Columbia Lake. It was sleeping with a group of about 30 Canada Geese.
This is the 4th or 5th record for the county, and may be the same bird that
was seen at nearby Laurel Creek on October 26th...

beginning of the winter birding period. Blake Maybank has asked me to compile
the Ontario sightings this year, and Blake will be

So far it looks like the Waterloo winter gull action is at the (now mostly
frozen) stormwater pond just SW of the Victoria/Ira Needles roundabout.
There were easily a few hundred birds this morning, including one adult Lesser
Black-backed, and one adult and one 2nd-year Glaucous Gull.

Just saw a flock of 36 Sandhill Cranes circling over field on the east side
of Reesor Road, north of the pond at around 3:45pm. They were calling as
well.

Black Vulture
The North bay landfill site has huge numbers of gulls these days, including
at least 8 Glaucous, including a beautiful adult; fewer Iceland, Great
Black-backed, and of course several hundred of Herring in various plumages.
Thayers have been detected, also though misidentification of this
