There were lots of birders on the river today. There were also a lot of
gulls, with 11 species and three hybrids reported. But finding the uncommon
and rare species proved difficult. I will list the highlights of the day
and hopefully, I will hear from other folks who had additional sightings.
Late this afternoon I had a female Pileated Woodpecker posing nicely for almost
an hour, moving between the forest section that is bisected by the bike trail
through the lower part of the Etobicoke Creek/Etobicoke Valley Park. This is
rather unusual for the area and I cannot remember if or whe

Thickson's Point

The long staying Eurasian Wigeon was seen today on Lake Ontario
just west of Thickson's Point. It is hanging out with a flock of Gadwall
and American Wigeon's.

Hi Birders,
The GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE that was reported on Nov 28th has been seen
every day since at Columbia Lake.
Today, however, Ken Burrell and I found it at the storm water pond at the
intersection of Ira Needles and Victoria St.
The bird does seem to move around a bit. If you are look
1:20pm - Hawk Owl spotted hunting from several tree tops in marshland east of
Opeongo Road just north of the narrow bridge.
Opeongo Road is near km48 of HWY 60 in Algonquin Prov Park, about 3hrs north of
Toronto.

ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial
bird
Photos taken of this and a Horned Grebe at present. Bird is ranging between
west end of marina and bay at west end of park by filtration plant.
4 species of grebe are present!
Park is at foot of Kipling Ave. in Toronto (Etobicoke). Free parking at
southern most lot at road terminus.

Found by Mark Jennings a single Purple Sandpiper is crawling along the beach
west of Bronte Harbour.
>From the QEW take Bronte Road down to Lakeshore and turn right. Go to West
>River Road which is just over Bronte Creek and turn left . Park at the Marina
>and come down to the shore.

Good morning
Dad and I just saw 2 Black Vultures and 1 Turkey Vulture near Queenston.
The birds appeared to be leaving a roost on the Ontario side of the river
about 200m upriver from the traffic circle near the Brock monument. I
assume they are at the dump in the USA by now.
