Today, Sunday 5 January 2014, John Carley, Carl Hills, Garth Riley and I
participated in the Lake Ontario Waterfowl Inventory (also known as The Duck
Count). Our area was on the Toronto waterfront from Cherry Beach to the
Leslie Street Spit - Tommy Thompson Park. Temperatures were mild around 0 C.

Spotted 12-15 Horned Larks feeding in a field at corner of Baseline Rd and
Lambs Rd in Bowmanville. They then flew off to the field behind Prices
Market.
Directions:
Take Liberty Exit from 401. North to lights at Baseline Rd. Turn
right(East) about 1km to Lambs Rd intersection.
Watch in the fields
Visible right now at top of tall tree. Enter park from western-most entrance
off Sheppard Ave., and drive straight till you can see the tall tree in open
field.

At noon Sunday we saw an American pipit along with snow buntings and three
lapland longspurs at a compost pile on Gore Road.

Directions: Take the hwy 40 exit off the 401 and go to Blenheim, turn right
at the traffic light in town, proceed to Erieau Rd, turn left and go to
Bisnett Rd. Turn left
The 34th St. Clair National Wildlife Area Christmas Bird Count was held on
January 1, 2014. Much of the count circle is open farmland, with some very high
quality wetlands adjacent to Lake St. Clair and the lower reaches of the Thames
River.
This count relies on relatively mild conditions,
