Spent most of the weekend birding the Kingston area including Wolfe and Amherst
Island. The Snowy Owls continue to dominant the winter birding scene with 15+
on February 8th on Wolfe Island, mainly the west end of the island and 11 on
February 9th on Amherst Island, with at least 5
This weekend David Szmyr, Josh Vandermuelen and myself headed up to the massive
Timmins 9 burn (largest in NE ontario since 1960) to look primarily for
American Three-toed Woodpeckers.
Highlights
5 hrs of surveying over two days covering less than 500 hectares around Cache
lake road/Hwy 144

Observed a Snowy owl (heavily marked) Sunday February 9 at 4:00 p.m. in
the Town of Georgina. Same bird was seen Thursday February 6 around the
same time of day, in the same location. The location is a quarter mile
north of the hamlet of Egypt, on telephone poles. Typically Feb. - early
