A Hoary Redpoll at the Visitor Centre feeders and Pine Grosbeaks on the
highway were highlights this week (see below).
The female Mallard at the Park Lake outlet was still present on December 30,
despite the onset of temperatures well below freezing.

22 birders braved the cold, snow and wind to record a total of only 29 species
on our annual OFO January 1st outing.
Our best sightings were a Hoary Redpoll with a large flock of Common Redpolls
at a feeder on Library Road off Northey's Bay Road near Petroglyphs Provincial
Park. Nearby 2 more R
Nashville, Tennessee and yellow rumped still present at 3pm at Sedgwick park in
Oakville. Some kinglets and a red tailed hawk too appeared just to make things
interesting.

the province. Since my last update, the following species have been added to
the list: Great Gray Owl, Dunlin, Swainson's Thrush, Harris's Sparrow,
White-eyed Vireo, Black-and-white Warbler, Forster's Tern
2 Snowy Owls present on the northernmost islands at the Canada Centre for
Inland Waters adjacent to Eastport Drive in Burlington. Trumpeter Swans also

Happy New Year Ontbirders,
This morning at 10:20 my daughter, Alexa, and I saw the male Painted Bunting in
the backyard of #33 Arkendo Drive with a few other birders. The bird came into
the cedar hedge first and then flew out to feed on seed laid out on the yard,
in plain sight.
