In March, over a span of 7 days, birders have surveyed for raptors from
Greenland Rd., roughly 800 meters west of Thomas Dolan. Constance Creek is
in the valley below, sandwiched between two ridges: Carp Ridge to the SW
and Dunrobin Ridge (Greenland Road) to the NE. As far as
This afternoon, while walking a trail at Hillman Marsh, I saw a large size peep
type shorebird fly over, calling in a way that sounded very much like the call
of a Red Knot. This would be absurdly early for a Red Knot and I can only
assume at this point that it was a Pectoral Sandpiper with a
Tree swallows have arrived at Hillman Marsh. I saw two looking for supper this
afternoon.

Today around 1:20pm, I observed 2 Sandhill Cranes just south of Port Perry.
They are located in a field on the west side of Simcoe St, between King Street,
and Scugog Line 4. The cranes were there at 5:30pm in the same field.

At 5:00 p.m. today, after watching for over an hour several thousand Canada
Geese flying off the Carp River floodplain in small groups and headed west into
adjoining fields, I spotted a single Greater White-fronted Goose doing the
same. The bird may be the same one as seen by Mark Patry on

The Juvenile Male Harlequin Duck is still at Springbank Park. Just below the
dam he spends the majority of his time hanging around the island.

Gyr seen very briefly but clearly as it flew across the road just below
treetop height. Presence betrayed by all the agitated small birds. Had quick
but clear look before it went behind trees and house, could not relocate.
