At around 9:00 this morning there was a mini fallout that brought in the
warblers. I had Yellow-rumped, Palm, Yellow, Black-throated Green, two
Blackburnians, and a male Cerulean. The warblers were concentrated in the area
where the chain link fence separates Black Oak from Ojibway Shores.

At around 8:30 this morning I heard a singing House Wren, then located it.
There were also 5 species of woodpecker in the park - Downy, Red-bellied,
Flicker, Sapsucker, and a true Essex County rarity, a Hairy Woodpecker. Don't
laugh! I might see one a year down here.
Black Oak is accessed from
Two males seen at 9:30 a.m. near the creek that runs parallel to the paved
trail. Apparently not seen by anyone until today, and my earliest record here.
Also a Northern Flicker has overwintered here and I heard it in the same area.

It sang several times and then disappeared into the wet area east of the oxbow
at around 9:45. The oxbow trail is muddy, but full of warblers today.

In 2.5 hours of birding this morning I got 62 Species, including 16 warblers
and 10 firsts of the year. Nothing unusual, but huge numbers of White-throated
Sparrows, Nashvilles, Yellows, and Gnatcatchers. Birding at times was manic -
I couldn't keep up with the flow.

At 2:05 this afternoon I heard the unmistakeable call of a Sandhill Crane
flying over my house in the Riverside area of Windsor. It was flying to the
southwest and at least 500 m high. Best yard bird of the year!
