The 86th Kitchener CBC was held Saturday, December 14th with rain in
the morning transitioning transitioning to heavy snow and sleet, and
variable strengths of wind. Creeks and rivers were open but ponds and
standing water was mostly frozen. The poor conditions contributed to a
low overall species
The 85th Kitchener CBC was held Saturday, December 15th with relatively
warm conditions and a high of 3oC. Previous snow had melted so walking and
driving was easy with lots of green grassy lawns and fields as well as some
muddy patches. Creeks and rivers were mainly open water but ponds and
A Townsend's Solitaire was seen and photographed by several birders on the
CBC today, and posted by Heather Bagg too the kw listserv, so I figured I'd
post it here. It was seen at around 2:50, perched on top of a spruce on
Forfar Court, Kitchener. It was photographed there, and then seen by others
Pretty sure that this hasn't been posted to ONTBirds yet, but I just found
out about a Hermit Warbler in the Huntsville area through the Ontario Rare
Bird Alert facebook group. One was uploaded to iNaturalist today, and the
observation was yesterday. It appears that the bird has not been seen
I don't have all the details, but my friend Logan Baldwin just told me about an
adult male black morph Ruff he found. It is near Angus Ontario, on McKinnon
Road in Minesing wetlands. First flooded field on the left currently about 30
feet away. This all of the information I have. Pictures
Posting for Nathan Hood, who found an adult male in the Port Rowan Wetlands.
Currently being viewed on the North side of the wetland with some Redheads.
Possibly the returning bird from East 1/4 line, but since no Americans are
present (which I believe it was with), it could very well be a
The Barnacle Goose continues today in Schomberg, and into this evening as
well. I ran into lots of birders trying to view the bird at the Trisan
Center platform, but it was only visible from the sewage treatment parking
lot, east of the center across the pond. It was in the pond, along with
many
For all of those who want it for the year, or missed it last (me), the
Townsend's Solitaire that MacNeal found last November still continues
today. I haven't seen any updates on this listserv since Dan refound it on
the 16th, but I thought I'd let people know. It seems to be most reliable

Just getting the word out that a female mountain bluebird was seen at
Snyder's Flats in Waterloo. A person was there two hours later and did not
find it, but recent weather suggests it should stay in the area! See
checklist for details: http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist/S40577554
Just letting everyone know that the Solitaire was not seen today. The
photis were reviewed from the morning and the bird turned out to be a
shrike. I just checked about an hour ago, and there was very little bird
activity. The robins it was with have all left except one. A male Northern
Harrier
I know it was already posted this morning, but I ran into some birders who
were unable to find either. Viewing from the South side is very poor; lots
of haze and the birds are far away. I was able to locate two adult Pacific
Loons with some difficulty from Johnson's Beach at around 2 pm. They were
The Harris’s Sparrow was seen again at 4:30 today between 1623 and 1625 Gowling
Terrace.
