Just a mention that in our north Markham yard, we have had 3 Rusty Blackbirds,
4 Common Grackles and 3 Red-winged Blackbirds, amidst the Starlings and many
Brown-headed Cowbirds (year round here) over the last two days. Extremely cold
and windy conditions today, but sunny.

In our Markham garden - 4 red-winged Blackbirds, 3 Grackles, and many Cowbirds,
mixed in with a large flock of 70+ Starlings today. Also appearing today 25+
House Sparrows which have been mostly absent this winter.

With the beautiful weather this week-end, our garden in Markham has been full
of bird activity! This morning we saw our first Red-winged blackbird of the
season at one of our feeders (at least a couple of weeks early for us), and 7
Cowbirds. We also noticed that out of the 40 or 50 Juncos that
Today we were at one of our favourite local birding spots, Reesor Pond, on
Reesor Road south of Highway 7. To our amazement, there were about 20 people
fishing there, some even in waders, and actually in the pond. This is a first
for us, we have never seen this before. It is infuriating, as
Juvenile Red-headed Woodpecker spotted around 10 this morning in Phyllis
Rawlinson Park, Leslie Street north of 19th Avenue in Richmond Hill.

A male Orchard Oriole was spotted in our garden, hanging out with three male
Baltimore Orioles! Also male and females Rose-breasted Grosbeaks and many
more...what a great week so far for birds in our Markham garden!

Early this morning, at least 50 Red-winged Blackbirds arrived at our feeders
here in Markham, along with a solitary Brown-headed Cowbird and a Grackle...
spring in coming!

We spotted three Long-tailed Ducks (Oldsquaw) on Lake Ontario today, at the
bottom of Thickson Road in Whitby, off the main trail, seen from the grassy
lakeside trail. May not be that rare, but for us it was!

On a quick visit to Lynde Shores in Whitby today, in addition to the regular
visitors, two Red-winged Blackbirds, three Brown-headed Cowbirds, a
White-throated Sparrow and the usual Wild Turkeys – 34 of them!

Markham. I’m not sure if there have been many sightings of Cowbirds this season
or not, so I thought I would post this.
