Birders,

I spent a couple of hours walking around Humber Bay Park's west side
starting from Mimico Creek (which splits the park's east & west sides)
and heading west from there. At the creek, between the big white
pedestrain bridge and Lakeshore Blvd. I saw the previously reported
Killdeer & Great Blue Heron, the Killdeer was in the warm water
outflow on the east side of the creek, about 20m south of Lakeshore
Blvd. The Heron was on the west side of the creek.

For the second time in as many visits (Tue & today) I saw an adult
Cooper's Hawk along the main road in the west side of the park, as it
heads south toward the lake.

To the west of the park, following the trail that runs just south of
all the condos there were many "regular" winter waterfowl, including
300+ Redhead, about the same # of Greater Scaup and 3 American Coots,
also seen were 14 American Robins feeding on juniper berries. But
note that all of the waterfowl could be much better seen from where
Glenn Coady had the Harlequin Ducks (I couldn't find them today) at
Amos Waites headland, which is 1.2km west of Humber Bay West, at the
foot of Superior Avenue (pay parking). Also at Amos Waites as we
walked back to the car a not-too-distant adult Bald Eagle flew over
scaring up most of the gulls but not the ducks.

Good birding,
Frank Pinilla

DIRECTIONS:
Humber Bay Park can be found at the foot of Park Lawn Rd. where it
intersects with Lakeshore Blvd. The entrance to the west side of the
park is just west of Park Lawn. Amos Waites is, as mentioned, just
over 1km west of this.
