This evening, between 7 and 8 pm, I had 2, possibly 3, woodcocks in and around 
the small vernal wetlands at the south end of Cambridge. A single bird flew 
quietly by me twice, then began its familiar chirping and peenting display 
calls, both from the ground and air. 

Wind was light and out of the west. Snow was falling lightly. This is by far my 
earliest personal record.
