Hi Ontbirders: A nice sunny morning with maybe a very slight breeze. Calm before the storm? A trip to Andrew Haydon Park found one half of the western pond covered over with a thn sheet of ice which meant much of the water fowl was much closer to shore for great close-up viewing. Counted 5 male Green-Winged Teals, Lesser Scaups, others saw Cackling Geese and a Ring-Necked Duck that dropped by the same pond for 20 minutes or so. Yesterday, a number of people watched a Great Black-Backed Gull kill a Scoter (apparently a White-Winged Scoter) on the Ottawa River just off Andrew Haydon Park. This drew 3 Bald Eagles, an adult and 2 juveniles over to inspect. You can see a photo of this on Gary Fairhead's website: http://www.pbase.com/photofair/image/139836782/original Thanks. W. Hum http://www.pbase.com/golfpic/some_recent_shots Directions: >From Ottawa, take Carling west past Holly Acres road and enter Andrew Haydon >Park at its second entrance. With the forecasted overnight snowfall, not sure >if the entrance gates will still be open tomorrow. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
