A male Barrow’s Goldeneye was seen by a couple of observers early afternoon
today and I saw it around 2:55PM, swimming almost halfway between the Canadian
and US shorelines off Guthrie Park just south of the Shell docks. At present,
it will require a scope. Most of the river is ice-covered and the goldeneye is
fishing in an open patch of water containing Redhead, scaup, Long-tailed Ducks
and 30-35 Common Goldeneye.

Guthrie Park can be reached by taking the Modeland Rd/Hwy 40 ramp off Hwy 402
all the way to the Vidal St S. lights and T-intersection. Turn left (south) and
pass Suncor and the Aamjiwnaag First Nations reserve past Lasalle Rd and the
Shell docks across from the Shell refinery. Guthrie is a pull-off park along
the St. Clair River overlooking the north end of Stag Island.
