Hello Ontbirds,

There were no fewer than 30 CHIMNEY SWIFTS over Holiday Beach
Conservation Area in Amherstburg this afternoon. A single pan across the sky
to the east yielded 30 swifts, and that's not to mention possible singles
here and there to the north and west of the Hawk Tower. This seems unusually
late for such numbers; however, I'm not familiar with the species' seasonal
status in sw. Ontario. I was curious as to whether others are still seeing
swifts in numbers, or at all, at this late date.

Also, just to clarify, the 2009 Big Sit at Holiday Beach on Sunday, 11
October, tallied 93 species (not 80). You can view the complete list online
at
http://www.birdwatchersdigest.com/site/funbirds/bigsit/results09/circles.php
(scroll
down to "Canada Big Sits!"). Stupidly, I forgot to include the raptor data
in with the non-raptor species sheet that we use for daily observations.
Good birding,
Justin
