Observation start time: 08:00:00
Observation end time: 15:15:00
Total observation time: 7.25 hours

Official Counter: Dustin Brewer

Observers: Andrew Sturgess, Don Sherwood, John Elliott, Rosemary Brady

Visitors:
We had a nice group of visitors today, including one who finally saw a
Golden Eagle in Michigan!

Weather:
There were several weather factors which made for good raptor-watching
today. The north-northwest wind started early and allowed for a full day of
raptor movement. High barometric pressure and relatively cool weather may
have also been an impetus for migration. The relatively low cloud cover
probably helped to create thermals (but also made it harder to find
raptors, due to fewer aerial landmarks).

Raptor Observations:
Today was full of the relatively rare species that we enjoy seeing! In
addition to several light morph Rough-legged Hawks and a juvenile Northern
Goshawk, we spotted more Golden Eagles (16) than we have had on any day yet
this season. We had a good flight of Red-tailed Hawks and Red-shouldered
Hawks, too, which made for an overall great day at the count site.

Non-raptor Observations:
Several Common Loons flew past today, as did more than 750 American Crows.

Predictions:
Tomorrow is predicted to be cool, but sunny. There will likely be a
westerly component to the wind all day. We hope to have more looks at
Rough-legged Hawks, Northern Goshawks, and Golden Eagles.
