Vernon, Ohio. Weather: The morning began with foggy conditions but quickly transitioned to clear. However, a constant haze was on the horizon, making identification of distant raptors challenging. Winds were quite light from southeast, temperature reached near 60F. Raptor Observations: Not a huge day for migrant raptors. Turkey Vultures were pretty light at 28, Red-tailed Hawks were the most numerous at 29. We also had a handful of Sharp-shinned, Cooper's, and Red-shouldered Hawks,a couple Northern Harriers including a "Gray Ghost," and 3 Golden Eagles. In fact, one of the first birds of the day was a spectacular low fly-over of a Golden Eagle right over head. Our photographers were pleased to say the least. Non-raptor Observations: Lines of waterfowl in flight could be seen very distant over Lake Erie. We only had probably a few dozen Crows, but Rusty Blackbirds could be heard in large flocks behind the count site throughout the day. Also, a large murmuration of Starlings nearby provided some awe and entertainment. Predictions: Tomorrow will remain cloudy, with winds from the southwest. Rain is likely in the afternoon. We would not expect any higher raptor numbers than we had today. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Detroit River Hawk Watch (greg_norw...@fws.gov) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
