Weather: Today was unseasonably warm, with a high reaching 80F. Moderate steady SSW winds persisted throughout the day. Raptor Observations: Today was not particularly exciting for migrant raptors - we did have a trickling of Sharp-shinned Hawks, and a couple of Red-tailed Hawks and Merlins. Turkey Vulture total was 300 birds, the majority of which came through late morning. Afternoon hours were quite slow. Non-raptor Observations: Despite the low numbers of raptors, Red-winged Blackbirds made a big push during the first hour of the count, with approximately 3670 passing over the count site within the first hour of the count. Additionally, Ruby-crowned Kinglets and Brown Creepers could be heard in the surrounding trees, and a couple of Yellow-rumped Warblers kept us company in a nearby tree. Our first flock of migrant Crows passed by the site this afternoon, 15 total. Predictions: Unfortunately tomorrow should be more of the same, raptor-wise. Weather will be warm again with continuing south winds, and a chance of rain in the afternoon.
