Weather: Strong winds were persistent from the SW, getting quite gusty at times. Temperatures were warm, with a high of 76F. Raptor Observations: Migration was quite slow today, as expected. A few groups of Turkey Vultures moved through, but only a handful of Sharp-shinned Hawks and a single Merlin were seen in migration. However, our local raptors provided some nice entertainment for a slow day. A local juvenile Bald Eagle was seen chasing an Osprey with a fish (he was unsuccessful), and two local Cooper's Hawks were seen darting around throughout the day. Our "local" Merlin was also perched in a nearby tree. Non-raptor Observations: Red-winged Blackbirds were still moving through in the early morning, with a total of approximately 550. Ruby-crowned Kinglets and Brown Creepers could be heard again in the surrounding trees. Predictions: Tomorrow will be a cooler day, with light NW winds in the morning, gradually switching to SE winds by the late afternoon. It should certainly be more favorable for migration than the last couple of days. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Detroit River Hawk Watch (greg_norw...@fws.gov) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
