Heads up Essex county birders-This morning I observed a medium sized goose
flying west along the Detroit River in front of Peche Island. First thought
Brant. However, the head and top section of neck all same deep BROWN. Obvious
contrast to lower lighter warm brown bottom portion of neck and body. No
greyish tones or any contrast marking in neck or body. Bill mostly dark with
slight contrast change lighter towards tip. No white on head or collar of neck,
body or wings. Top of tail appeared all white.Wing beat faster than most geese
species. Wings uniform in color and slightly greyish on top with darker
underwings. No white in wings at all.I could not discern color of legs or feet
or under tail coverts as it was in flight and I was observing from 9 stories up
from my apartment. I hope someone gets on this goose again with some photos if
it stays in the area. Jim Hunt Windsor, Ontario
