At around 5 pm today while unsuccessfully trying to refind the Western Grebe we
discovered a breeding plumage Eared Grebe. It was at foot of 23rd St. which is
at the western limit of Colonel Samuel Smith Park. It was associating with
Horned Grebes and when first seen was very close to shore.

Other birds at the east end of the park in the "bowl" area were an early
Tennessee Warbler, Black-throated Green, Yellow-rumped, Pine, Northern
Waterthrush; Wood and Hermit Thrush; Blue-headed and Warbling Vireo; Brown
Creeper; Yellow-bellied Sapsucker; Field, White-throated, Fox, Chipping, Song
and Savannah Sparrow; Brown Thrasher; etc.

Colonel Samuel Smith Park is located at the extreme south end of Kipling Ave.
23rd St. is located at the first set of lights west of Kipling Ave. turn south
off of Lakeshore Blvd.
