Hi All,

Jean and I observed the first winter Franklin's Gull, upriver from the
Queenston boat ramp, earlier this afternoon. We walked along the trail from the
upper parking area to an open area overlooking the river from the Canadian
side. We observed the gull circling above the river with a group of Bonaparte's
at about 2:30 pm, for approximately 15 minutes.
Looking towards the U.S. side, we were stood between the large white structure
at Artpark and the aerial tower at the top of the gorge. The escarpment/gorge
wall on the U.S. side is easily seen from this location as were the wooden
steps.
Directions: From the Niagara bound QEW, exit Stanley Avenue. Turn left and at
the stop/yield sign, turn right onto Portage Road. Drive along Portage Road
until the traffic circle at Queenston Heights and head down the escarpment on
the Niagara Parkway. Once below the escarpment, continue along the parkway and
turn right onto Dumfries Street. Cross Princess Street to enter the parking
area for the Queenston boat ramp parking lot.
