The Prairie Warbler is still singing where Norm located it 11 am today. I dragged a wooden pallet to a spot opposite where I heard it singing. It can be heard from the gasline Norm described. We heard and saw a Prairie Warbler just north of the gas pipe line (approx. 530 meters – Conc. 6 W to gas line). It was on the right (east) side of the trail between the first and second tower past the gas line (approx. 235 meters – gas line to warbler area). Some of the other birds seen or heard there were Sharp-shinned Hawk, 2 Ring-necked Pheasants, 6 Blue-winged Warblers, Pine Warbler, Ovenbirds, House Wrens, Grasshopper and Field Sparrows, Eastern Towhees, Black-billed Cuckoo, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Wood Thrushes, Veerys, Rose-breasted Grosbeaks, Scarlet Tanagers, Indigo Buntings, Willow and Great Crested Flycatchers and Wood Cock, etc. We found a total of 9 Blue-winged Warblers,6 of them on the power line, 2 further (west) along Conc. 6 Rd between the power line and Valens Rd and another at Beverly Swamp directly north of the line on Conc. 8 Rd. On Conc. 8 Rd we saw and heard Red-bellied Woodpeckers, Veery, Canada Warbler, another Blue-winged Warbler, Ovenbirds, E. Wood-Pewees and Grasshopper Sparrows, etc. With this dry weather we encountered few Mosquitos though there were a few. Directions:- From Hwy 401 exit # 299 (east of Cambridge) drive south on Hwy 6 (approx. 17 km) to Concession 6 W. Turn right (west) on Conc. 6 W and drive past Westover Road (approx. 10.8 km from Hwy 6 to the power line) to the power transmission line (you can’t miss the towers, they are big and this tall with lots of wires). Or from Hwy 403 drive north on Hwy 6 (approx. 9.5 km) to Concession 6 W and turn left (west) on Conc. 6 W. .
