Despite the crap weather I ventured to the Mississippi River based on a
friends' tip regards Swans and Grebes. At Appleton behind the Mississippi GC
are two winter plumage Red-necked Grebes. Down the river a bit at the Appleton
bridge is a single Pied-billed Grebe. There are several swan reports on the
Tay and the Mississippi from yesterday. I didn't see any between CP and
Appleton today but there are many places for swans to hide
You can reach Appleton from Ottawa by going west on 417 to 7 and west to
Carleton Place. Go north on McNeely until it ends in Hwy 49. Turn right and a
couple of couples along is the Appleton sign to the right. The GC is first on
the right by the river and the bridge is a little further along

cheers

Iain
