Weather: Fall has set in, but the sky remained sunny. It was even a bit chilly if you weren't in the sun. Winds stayed consistent throughout the day out of the south east. Raptor Observations: A very exciting day, non-stop action till about 4:30pm (EDST). First thing in the morning, a large kettle of Turkey Vultures numbering over a thousand, came by over the smoke stacks. Many more came over throughout the day, while buteos finally made some strong movements. We had 73 Red-tailed Hawks and 31 Red-shouldered Hawks. A juvie Golden Eagle flew in from Canada and gave us a quick chance to look at it. Non-raptor Observations: Too busy with raptors, but I did see a female Mallard get swallowed from beneath by what can only be a large snapping turtle. Predictions: Tomorrow we should have a strong early push, an afternoon storm is supposed to come through and might shut the count down. It's hard to say, Monday was supposed to be the same, but it was sunny all day. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Greg Norwood (greg_norw...@fws.gov) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
