Talks of rain may have kept many people from coming out. However a afternoon presentation by raptor photographer Vic Berardi, brought many people down. Weather: Today was unusually warm for mid-October. It was socked-in cloudy all day, and threatened rain throughout the count period. Winds were consistent from the north west, but did not have enough strength to move the flags. Temperatures topped off in the low 70s. Raptor Observations: Incredibly quite, literally the slowest day of the month. The only species seen today was Sharp-shinned Hawk, with only 21 seen. Low winds, solid cloudiness, and thick haze made finding birds very hard today. Non-raptor Observations: A few flocks of American Crows made a push early in the day. A single Horned Lark was our first of the season for the count site. Predictions: Tomorrow should be a good day for hawk watching. Sunnier and warmer is predicted. A bit of rain may make an appearance, but shouldn't be enough to close down the count. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Greg Norwood (greg_norw...@fws.gov) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
