Weather: Partly to mostly cloudy and hazy skies with Southwest winds at 1 to 7 mph in the AM turning West-southwest and West in the PM and increasing to 8 to 12 mph. Haze clearing with slight shift in wind direction (to West). Warm and humid with temps. ranging from 21.5 to 25C. Visibility very poor up until around 1200 EST when it began to improve incrementally by the hour. Raptor Observations: Slightly more diverse flight today than yesterday, otherwise similar composition and numbers. At least 2 Broadwings put down in the trees to the East of the Tower in the afternoon; therefore not counted. Looking forward to their passage tomorrow along with many more. Non-raptor Observations: 11 species of waterfowl, Black-crowned Night-heron- 3 (1 ad., 2 juvs.), Bald Eagle- 6 locals, Shorebirds included Killdeer(15), Greater(1) and Lesser(2) Yellowlegs, Pectoral Sandpiper(1), and Wilson's Snipe(1). Chimney Swift- 22, Ruby-throated Hummingbird- 2, RED-HEADED WOODPECKER- 5 (1 ad.(1018), 4 juvs. (0740, 0930, 0955, and 1055), Least Flycatcher- 1, Blue Jay- 11,980, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher- 1, Red-eyed Vireo- 1, Low diversity of warblers on the ground; only 6 species noted. 2 Cape Mays most noteworthy. Cedar Waxwing- 47, Indigo Bunting- at least 1, Purple Finch- 1, American Goldfinch- 848, Other: Monarch- 15, few dragonflies today. Predictions: Partly cloudy skies with North winds around 5 mph. High of 21C. Forecast looks great. After half a week of lousy migration conditions the flood gates should open up tomorrow with raptors pouring through.
