The first day of Festival of Hawks and north winds brought out large numbers of visitor. Thanks to all for spotting the "high flyers", and keeping me company on the tower today. Weather: Bright and sunny today. Temps started out at 13C and climbed all day reaching 23.9C by 3pm. Winds mainly N or NNW, but quite mild most of the day. Very few clouds against a bright blue sky. Raptor Observations: Raptors began moving early this morning with 23 American Kestrels before 7am. There were pockets of activity throughout the day. A total of 10 raptor species in all today. Birds were quite high and often distant. A couple of small Broad-winged kettles. Non-raptor Observations: Song birds were scattered throughout the day, but no large numbers of any one species recorded. American Gold Finch were most prevelant, and a nice showing of Cedar Waxwings & Chimney Swifts also moved through. Predictions: Clear skies, warmer temps but a shift in the wind for Sunday.
