Hello ontbirders,
As I haven't seen a posting from High Park in a while; I thought I'd give a
quick overview.
Not as many numbers of migrants in the park as yesterday, but a highlight
was my first ORCHARD ORIOLE for the year, singing beautifully in a willow
next to the park benches at the south end of the park, and as I was hoping,
a BALTIMORE ORIOLE in the allotment gardens. In the valley at the south west
end of the park was a RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER, which flew into my view as I
was looking at a BLACK and WHITE WARBLER.
Another good sighting was an ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, which I led a few
people to. It was last seen around 10am flitting through trees behind the
Buffalo pen in the zoo area. The remaining migrants mainly consisted of
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS and the familiar RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS. As well a
solitary NASHVILLE and BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER. One more bird of note
was a FIELD SPARROW, again in the allotment gardens.
Happy spring birding,
Jay Peterson
