Hello Birders, On Monday, November 8 Ross Wood found a Hooded Oriole at a remote location on Long Point. The bird was observed for a couple of hours by four other lucky observers and has not been refound since. It appears to be a second-year male, possibly of the western subspecies group (nelsoni) , but this is yet to be confirmed by people with more experience with this species. Photographs were taken and a complete report will be submitted to the OBRC.
Obviously, the last few weeks here at Long Point have been incredible and if you needed one more incentive to get outside and check your local birding hotspot this should be it...who knows what other crazy birds are around! Full details on this bird and the rest of the week's highlights at Long Point Bird Observatory are posted on Fridays during the migration monitoring season online: http://www.bsc-eoc.org/longpoint/index.jsp?targetpg=lpbosight Good luck!
