Highlights: With a more persistent run of northerlies, warbler movement has become more noticeable though in terms of rarities, the week has been somewhat quiet. The following report is condensed - 'normality' should return next week. Highlights include; SORA, WHIMBREL, RUDDY TURNSTONE, DUNLIN, WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER, OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER. Shorebirds remain hit-and-miss but, with an apparent drop in the water level on Lake Ontario, Reed's Bay on Wolfe Island has produced some of this week's highlights with RUDDY TURNSTONE (2), DUNLIN (2) and WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER (1) being seen there on 14th, along with BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER and other commoner species. Over in the States, a RED-NECKED PHALAROPE was observed on 12th at El Dorado Beach Preserve, as was an early SNOW GOOSE. A Whimbrel was seen at Prince Edward Point on 15th; the only other highlight on that very quiet day being a RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET - the first of the season, however, was seen near Elginburg on 13th. A SORA was a somewhat unusual find for this time of year at Marshlands CA, Kingston on 17th and just across the road in Cataraqui Bay, 3 COMMON GOLDENEYE continue to be seen. At Lemoine Point CA, an OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER was seen on 14th. A number of WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS have already been reported, including sightings at Lemoine Point CA, Kingston on 16th, Lansdowne on 17th and Prince Edward Point on 19th. In order to minimise disturbance to wildlife and property, the KFN Executive will no longer be reporting owl sightings via the Internet. To maintain records for conservation purposes, sightings are welcomed through all the normal channels. As always, thanks to all those who submitted sightings over the last week. Mark. Mark D.
