Today at about 1:45 pm I found a Le Conte’s Sparrow at Columbia Lake, Waterloo. It was skulking through a goldenrod field north of the weather station, occasionally popping up on a bush. I was able to follow it around the field for about half an hour, only to have it disappear into some phragmites a few minutes before another birder arrived. I’m sure it’s still around that area since shortly after I lost it it began to rain again. As soon as the sun comes back out, it ought to pop up again.
