Cooler, slightly windier weather didn’t stop new birds from being reported
this morning. A male HOODED WARBLER put on a show near the tip this morning.
Also spotted in the area were SCARLET TANAGER, YELLOW-THROATED VIREO,
WHITE-EYED VIREO, BLUE-WINGED WARBLER, PINE WARBLER, BLACK-THROATED
BLUE-WARBLER, PINE SISKIN, and RED-HEADED WOODPECKER. At the very tip 2
LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS were observed (1 1st basic, 1 3rd alternate).
Offshore, 2 SURF SCOTERS flew by and a single COMMON GOLDENEYE was also
spotted. Closer to the tip train spot, a YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT (same as
before?) was reported again. Moving further north a PEREGRINE FALCON was
reported along the west beach and a BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER was written in the
book north of the “Sparrow Field”.

Two PROTONOTARY WARBLERS were once again reported from Woodland nature
Trail; one at the southernmost boardwalk and the other at the “north”
bridge.

Twenty-seven (27) AVOCET were reported yesterday from Wheatley Harbour. Two
(2) SANDHILL CRANES were observed at the end of Shuster Trail.

And yes, the GRASSHOPPER SPARROW continues to delight birdwatchers, It is
present by the Prickly Pear Cactus display opposite the font door of the
Visitor Centre.

Good Birding,

Hike Leaders Pete, Karl, Dave, Justin, Todd and Mary Anne
