Friends of Point Pelee provide guided birding hikes throughout the Festival
of Birds at Point Pelee National Park of Canada. Proceeds from hikes support
the Friends of Point Pelee and Point Pelee National Park. This submitted
report is a service of the FoPP Hike Leaders.

Another beautiful day greeted birders in the Park this morning. First bird
observed by many was a very cooperative Grasshopper Sparrow observed right
in front of the Visitor Centre front door. Warblers were also observed
throughout the Park. Highlights reported this morning included
YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT. One was reported from the tip area as well as another
from the Woodland Nature Trail. Not far away, a PRAIRIE WARBLER was reported
from the “Sparrow Field”. BLUE-WINGED WARBLERS and a few late RUSTY
BLACKBIRDS were scattered throughout. A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER was seen at
the tip and a very vocal RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER teased birders at Tilden’s
Woods, as did a CAROLINA WREN. Also following the guided walk there was a
very photogenic YELLOW-THROATED VIREO. A WHITE-EYED VIREO was spotted at the
Tip.

Also reported yesterday from the Park was two WORM-EATING WARBLERS. One was
in Tilden’s Woods (east of the boardwalk) and one along stop #15 in the
Woodland Nature Trail. Also reported in Tilden’s Woods yesterday was a
KENTUCKY WARBLER, LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH (2), and NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH (16).
A PROTHONOTARY WARBLER was seen at stop #12 along the Woodland Nature Trail.

Outside the Park a SNOWY EGRET was reported (May 2nd) from the bridge on
County Rd. 20 in Amherstburg (near Holiday beach). On May 1st, 8 WILLET were
reported from Wheatley Harbour and Hillman Marsh C.A. shorebird cell had 5
LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS AND 1 EURASIAN WIGEON.
