Hi Ontbirders: Hoary Redpolls continue at the Hilda Road Feeders today in the falling snow. There were at least 2 seen today. I have observed 3 to 4 different individuals over the past several days. Today there were 80+ redpolls at the feeders (well, it depended on how good your timing was). At one point, a Hairy Woodpecker and a Hoary Redpoll were perched on opposing sides of the sme cylindrical feeder. I saw the Hairy Woodecker reach over and poke at the Hoary Redpoll. I was surprised to see a small tuft of feathers at the end of the woodpecker's long bill afterward. These big birds are usually well behaved but suppose it wasn't in a sharing mood. In addition, Pileated, Downy and Hairy woodpeckers were seen along with White-Breasted Nuthatches and Red-winged Blackbirds. Happy birding! This Hoary was seen yesterday. http://www.pbase.com/golfpic/image/149267853/original This one today. http://www.pbase.com/golfpic/image/149278906/original W.
