Twice this week I checked the burn area located roughly 1 km west along the
Lime Kiln Trail from the parking lot. I heard and saw 3-6 Downy/Hairy
Woodpeckers tapping individually, but no Black-backed Woodpecker. The burn
area is more extensive north of the trail than south of it. I'd appreciate
any hints as to how to detect this bird.
