Hi Ontbirders,

Today was a good day for birding at Mud Lake. There were lots of warblers at
the west end of the ridge and in the secondary growth area south of the road
and west of the lake. In total I tallied 14 species of warbler, among them:

Tennessee Warbler (at least 3)
Bay-breasted Warbler (I only saw one at the west end of the ridge)
Cape May Warbler (at least 3)
Nashville Warbler (lots)
Northern Parula
Black-thraoted Blue Warbler (at least 2)
Palm Warbler (just one)
Blackburnian Warbler
Black-throated Green Warbler (at least 5)
Black-and-White Warbler
American Redstart

Also seen were the following:

Scarlet Tanager
Baltimore Oriole
Rose-breasted Grosbeak (many)
White-crowned Sparrow
Pied-billed Grebe

At home in west Ottawa a male Ruby-throated Hummingbird showed up two days ago
looking for the feeders I hadn't yet put out (he perched on the hook the feeder
normally hangs from as if to say "get that feeder out here!"), so if you don't
have yours out yet, the hummingbirds are back.

There was also a single Brant in the west pond at Andrew Haydon Park yesterday.
I heard it was around earlier this morning, but it did not appear to be present
at noon today when I stopped.

Directions

Take Pinecrest Road exit from 417 and head north to Richmond Road. Turn right
onto Richmond and merge to far left lane. After crossing Carling, the far left
lane defaults into a left turn lane onto Poulin. Turn left onto Poulin and
follow straight. Poulin makes a hard left after approx. 800m and becomes Howe.
You will now be heading west. At the first 4 way stop, turn right onto
Britannia Road and follow north to Cassels. Turn right onto Cassels and
continue to the entrance to Mud Lake. Park alongside the road there.
