For those keeping a winter list, at 1:30 pm today I observed a Pied billed
Grebe in Bowmanville harbour. Off the 401 take Liberty St Exit.
Immediately south of the 401, turn east onto Lake St. and then after about 500

There is a family of 3 young Pied-billed Grebes in the pond (one next to the
houses) at the corner of Aquaview and Silverado Crescent. This pond has been
good for a number of Pied-billed Grebes in past years. One year I recall maybe
4 to 5 families of grebes. Not so much in th

More migrants are returning to the Stratford area. This afternoon I saw my
first Pied-billed Grebe on Lake Victoria directly north of the Festival
Theatre. Also on the lake were 4 Hooded Merganser, 7 Wood Ducks, 2 Bufflehead,
1 Common Goldeneye, 3 American Black Duck along with Mallards and

A Pied-billed Grebe initially reported on the Port Hope/Cobourg CBC is
present in the Port Hope harbour today. That count didn't make it to
ONTBIRDS, and I figured this guy might be of some interest to winter
listers.

A morning walk beside Lake Victoria produced a Pied-billed Grebe, 7 Ring-necked
Duck, 4 Common Goldeneye and a Bufflehead. Walking farther east along the
south side of the Avon River I saw 4 Wood Duck and good numbers of robins,
grackles, redwings, Song Sparrow, Killdeer, and Turkey Vulture.
Photographed what to me was a very pretty but unusual bird yesterday about
3:30pm at the Narrows on Big Rideau Lake. Thanks to Tony Beck of Ottawa for
identifying the bird as a Pied-billed Grebe in winter plumage.

The Pied-billed Grebe was still at The Narrows on Big Rideau Lake this
afternoon (we first reported it Jan. 25). It and a male Hooded Merganser
stayed close together in the open water on the east side of the south bridge.

There was a Pied-billed Grebe
in the Dunrobin area today. To find the spot, drive west on Dunrobin
Road from March Road. Just before Dunrobin on the south side of the
road (left) is a flooded stream. The grebe was there (across from house
number 2570).

Other waterfowl present at Humber Bay Park east included about 25 Ruddy Ducks,
230 Redhead, 4 Hooded Mergansers and 120 Greater Scaup.
Humber Bay East is at the foot of Park Lawn Road in Etobicoke.

the power house. There are Egrets on the island by the scow ( barge )
above the falls.

Bay Pk E since November. There is a large bay formed by the lakeshore and
the protruding man-made park.
The bird is usually there somewhere, often close to shore. When the Ruddy
Ducks are there in number it may be trickier
