Good morning, Cool, cloudy, windy and slightly damp conditions greeted visitors to the Park this morning.
In spite of the weather conditions, bird activity has been slow but steady. A total of 22 species of warbler have been reported so far from various places across the Park. The area with withe greatest diversity and numbers appears to have been Tilden Woods. The highlight there was a male Hooded Warbler which was actively moving about, playing hide-and-seek with the birders. Also present near the main boardwalk was a White-eyed Vireo. Other warblers included two late Pine Warblers, along with American Redstart, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Black-throated Green, Cape May, and Orange-crowned Warbler. A Prothonotary Warbler was reported at Pioneer. Serval species of thrushes were observed along trails including Hermit, Veery and Wood Thrush. A few Scarlet Tanagers and Red-headed Woodpeckers were seen too. Outside the Park two Plegadis Ibis landed briefly at the shorebird cell at Hillman Marsh C.A. at around 8:30 p.m. yesterday. There have been no reports of them today. Good Birding, Festival of Birds Hike Leaders Pete R, Karl, Todd, Justin, Sarah, Jeremy, Jean, Geoff, Ian, Chris, John, Bruce and Paul.
