* * *Point Pelee National Park Migration Update for May 10, 2010: * A clear day with but a light breeze greeted birders in the Park this morning. Winds were from the north shifting to the north-east. Off the Tip, the three species of SCOTER were observed in the lake. At least two WHITE-EYED VIREOS were present on the Tip, along with a PINE WARBLER. A RUDDY TURNSTONE was at the Tip beach among the gulls. A female HOUSE SPARROW provided a surprise near the restrooms, along with a roosting COMMON NIGHTHAWK just off the path nearby. Along the forest trails, a MOURNING WARBLER was present on the Chinquapin Trail, and a SUMMER TANAGER was near post 17 on the Woodland Trail. An unspecified BLUE-WINGED X GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER hybrid and a CANADA WARBLER were spotted on the Shuster’s Trail. About 10 other species of warbler were along Shuster’s, and into Tilden Woods, including NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH, REDSTART, BLACK-THROATED GREEN, MAGNOLIA, and BLUE-WINGED WARBLERS. Also reported from yesterday, the 9th, from the Park was a KENTUCKY WARBLER at Sleepy Hollow, and a female SUMMER TANAGER that was seen across from the Marsh Boardwalk parking lot and also along the Northwest Beach entrance driveway. Outside the Park today, a LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen at Wheatley, and a LAUGHING GULL was observed at the Hillman shorebird cell.
