I spent yesterday at Presqu'ile with my wife and Stephen Derraugh, Anna Marie Iraci, and their son Fraser. As previous reports have stated, there were large numbers of SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, and PECTORAL SANDPIPERS. We also so found a few WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS, LEAST SANDPIPERS, about 10 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS, three STILT SANDPIPERS, and the 2 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS. No one we spoke to had heard of anyone seeing the BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER that had been present earlier in the week; it's possible it was staying on the island off Owen Point. We were unable to locate the WESTERN SANDPIPER, but others had better luck. We observed a MERLIN hunting along the beach, and a female NORTHERN HARRIER stirred things up near the Owen Point Trail lookout in the evening. Around noon an adult BALD EAGLE could be seen circling around Owen Point and Sebastopol Island. Five CASPIAN TERNS were roosting in with the gulls near Beach 4. In the late afternoon we took a walk through Jobe's Woods to escape the sun, and were happy to find a juvenile BARRED OWL being harassed by BLUE JAYS and a very vocal PILEATED WOODPECKER. MAGNOLIA WARBLERS and BROWN CREEPERS were also present. Pat DIRECTIONS: Presqu'ile is located near Brighton, Ontario, and is well signed from the 401. _________________________________________________________________ New!
