There was a juvenile Purple Sandpiper today at 4:30 P.M. offering superb looks
as it probed amongst the abundant algae on the shore at Shell Park, on the
south side of the pier.
Elsewhere, the adult male King Eider was also offering superb looks near the
St. Catharines Marina in Port Weller.
Shell Park is just south of the intersection of Great Lakes Boulevard and
Lakeshore Blvd. in Oakville. For the King Eider, take Broadway as far north as
it goes, into and just past the marina, to where some RV's are parked. The
eider was visible from here, but walking north from here along the path that
parallels the shore brought one much closer.
