Dear Mark,

The Sharp-tailed Sandpiper is still at Baie du Febvre as of Saturday a.m.

I went to see the Sharp-tailed Sandpiper in Quebec yesterday. Further to Langis' directions, I would strongly urge Ontarians to take the following route rather than the one suggested. This route takes full advantage of the newly completed 30, which effectively is a bypass around Montreal on the South Shore. There is a toll of $1.50 for the bridge across the St Lawrence.

The 401 becomes the 20 at the Quebec border. Continue on 20 until the junction with the newly completed 30, following signs for Tracy-Sorel. Take the 30 all the way to the end of the autoroute at Sorel (about 140 kms.) Then follow 132 east through Yamaska and Pierreville to Baie du Febvre. Then left on Route Janelle where the ponds are easy to find. Total distance for this route is just under 220 kms. from the Ontario border and entirely avoids the Island of Montreal and the main route to Quebec. If traveling from Ottawa, take the 417 to the 40 in Quebec and then take the 30 as above (the 30 now begins at the junction with the 40).
