Highlights of reports received December 1 through December 8 from the Niagara Frontier Region. December 1, at Sunset Beach on the Lake Ontario shore in Orleans County, 5 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS with 15 CEDAR WAXWINGS. On the Niagara River, 11 gull species during the past week. At the river source in Buffalo, a juvenile BLACK-LEG. KITTIWAKE in a flock of BONAPARTE'S GULLS, reported at the Peace Bridge and at the north end of Unity Island. An adult BLACK-HEADED GULL on the lower Niagara River, reported at the Whirlpool, power plants, and at the mouth of the river. Other gulls at the falls and lower river - LITTLE GULL, 2 THAYER'S GULLS, 5 ICELAND GULLS, 12 L. BLACK-B. GULLS and 2 GLAUCOUS GULLS. Also along the Niagara River - four, male, HARLEQUIN DUCKS above the falls, viewed from the Three Sisters Islands off Goat Island. Another pair of HARLEQUIN DUCKS at the Peace Bridge. A PINE WARBLER on the Niagara Parkway at the greenhouse above the falls in Ontario. And, BLACK VULTURES continue in the Village of Lewiston. December 5, at the Port Weller pier in Ontario, RED-THROATED LOON, BALD EAGLE, EASTERN SCREECH-OWL, 3 AMERICAN PIPITS and 40 SNOW BUNTINGS. And in Buffalo, FISH CROW reported again at Forest Lawn Cemetery. The December BOS meeting will be on Wednesday, December 14, at 7 PM, at the Buffalo Museum of Science. A program on the Niagara River and waterfront environment will be followed by the annual holiday party. Bring a desert to share, and visitors are always welcome at BOS meetings.
