Tuesday May 17 Thanks to a tip from Rodney Thompson, who was doing the Grassland Birds Survey in square 17ML08, I was able to find four of Manitoulin Island's Sharp-tailed Grouse. On reaching Manitoulin Island at Little Current, follow Hwy 540 to Concession Road 14. The road goes east for about 1.5 Km, but there is a large barn on the north side about a Km from the start. Stop so that you can look between the White Birch west of the barn and the northwest corner of the barn. Set up your scope to look northeast about 300 metres and focus on a group of five short posts wired for an electric fence. The birds were there at 8:30 a.m. and Rodney had seen 8 earlier in the morning. I stopped my car at 17 406233E/5083263N.
