At 12:30 am I flushed a Short-eared Owl from a scrubby area at the base of
one of the old hydro towers leading to the decommissioned Lakeview
Coal-fired Power Plant site (exact co-ordinates: 43.575234; -79.55394). It
flew south and landed in similar scrubby area secure by 'No tresspassing
signs' and fencing. If any knows this area, it is fairly wild and to the
east is the a waste-water treatment plant ... perfect habitat for birds
that love scrubby over-grown areas like this. I also saw a Rough-legged
Hawk flying east to west. David Pryor posted a record for this species on
31 January at this very location hence the reason for my search. I will be
going back there in about hour to continue my search and hopefully get some
photos this time.

Park at south end of Hydro Road which runs south off Lakeshore Boulevard
east between Dixie Road and Cawthra Road (Dixie Road is down to one lane
for construction so I suggest exiting the QEW at Brown's Line or Cawra
Road. You can park on the east side of Hydro Road just south of Rangeview
Rd (adjacent Kotyck Bros. Building).
