During a visit to the Morewood and Cayer Roads area where Snow and Canada Geese have been reported in large numbers for the past week or more, I can confirm that they are still there. There are many Blue and White phase Snow Geese, as well as Canada Geese. I didn’t manage to locate any Cackling geese, but it started to rain while I was there, and I didn’t have a spotting scope in any case. I also saw many Mallards, some Black ducks, and some Pintails. Also seen there were horned larks and killdeer. There were many turkey vultures seen in the area as well.
In addition to this location, in excess of 1,000 Snow geese, primarily white phase, were seen along the north side of Holmes Road, west of Hwy 31, near its intersection with Fawcett Road. Some Canada Geese were present there as well. The Snow geese there seemed more approachable for photographic purposes, than the geese along Morewood Road. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
