On this miserable day, cold, rain, snow and wind I toured the few concessions
east of Carleton Place and north of Hwy 7. despite the weather I turned up:

Multiple Kestrels,
Song Sparrow,
Rusty Blackbird
Northern Harriers
Snowy Owl
Tree Swallows (4)
Cackling Goose after looking at 8 million heads, necks and bills. A very
diminutive bill, rounded head and stub of a neck
Killdeer

a great miserable day

If you want to find these birds I would go west from Ottawa on 417 to Hwy 7 and
west to Ashton side road and then go north. Just crisscross east and west on
side roads between Ashton Side and Appleton Side and search the fields

cheers

Iain
